How well do you know your boundaries?

Many of us, daughters (and sons) of dysfunctional mothers, have weak or unclear boundaries that make us vulnerable to new attacks and manipulations. Boundaries not only need to be set but also protected.

Think of boundaries as they were walls – walls around your home. They protect you from bad weather and harmful people, keep you warm and safe. There's a door in that wall, and only you have control over who and when comes inside. Lack of boundaries is the same as keeping the door open all the time. And when your door is stuck, it means that your boundaries are rigid and you can't let anyone in, even if you want to.

Either way, don't worry – you can build proper boundaries and set a fitting door. It takes effort and time to learn new skills you need, but the sooner you start, the faster you will enjoy the sense of privacy and security.

“The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say ‘No’ to almost everything.”

Warren Buffett
